Hospitality Guide Mexico City

Mexico City,

Welcome to the world’s second largest city. Mexico City offers a variety of distinctive neighborhoods and is home to some 20 million inhabitants. The country’s sprawling capital can overwhelm even the most seasoned traveler and more important, Mexico City offers a wide selection of impressive venues that are definitely worth a visit! Make sure to double check the opening hours of the restaurants and bars mentioned below as most of them are opened only from Thursday to Sunday.

Day 1, Hospitality in the Historic Center

You would probably want to explore some of the lively areas in the city tonight. After your refreshing shower in your hotel room it is time to dress…dress to impress. We are taking a taxi to the historic center where the hospitality scene is awaiting our visit. First we’ll have a drink on the rooftop of Hotel de Cortes (Av. Hidalgo No. 85), which is located in a historic yet modern colonial building. De rooftop bar is named El Cielo de Cortes. This bar offers a contemporary setting with trendy lounge sofas and tasty fare, not to mention the panoramic views.

Hungry? Let’s visit a charming restaurant behind the Zocalo square in the center of the historic district: La Casa de las Sirenas (Guatemala 32). This venue is located right behind Mexico City’s impressive Metropolitan Cathedral. The restaurant is located on the rooftop of a historic house and offers affordable dining in a spectacular setting. Try one of the authentic Mexican Enchilladas and make sure to order your first tequila (Don Julio is worth a try!!) of your hospitality trip! Traditionally served with spicy tomato- and lime juice!

Our next visit is La Terraza del Centro (Guatemala 18). Just a few doors down from La Casa de las Sirenas we found another rooftop venue that breathes culture, intelligence and a great atmosphere. This restaurant bar is THE place to be if you fancy a young yet sophisticated crowd, moderate prices and…fine jazz or DJ’s. We almost forgot to mention the breathtaking views on the Cathedral…

Final stop for tonight is Zinco (Motolinia 20). This club is located in a former bank vault and is transformed into a Jazz club. This venue was ranked as one of the ” 25 most exciting new nightspots in the world”  by Condé Nast Traveler. As you can imagine…the place is not cheap though absolutely worth spending your funds! Our thought for tonight: “Hit it like there is no tomorrow…!!”

Day 2, clubbing, drinking and…more clubbing at Condesa

Today we’re visiting the Condesa area. Mexico City’s own Soho, features offbeat boutiques and streetside restaurants and bars. These are the stumping grounds of the city’s young upwardly mobile professionals.

Before taking off to the Condesa area, we MUST visit a hotel in the chique Polanco area. We are visiting the W hotel (Campos Eliseos 252). This is without a doubt one of the most refreshing hotel brands of the last decade. The W offers trendy lounges, contemporary design and exceptionally professional staff. On Thursday and Friday night, the lobby lounge is packed with a fashionable crowd because of special events, fashion shows, brand promotions etc. Make sure not to miss this one tonight!

Now let’s take a taxi to Condesa. Have dinner at one of the many street restaurants in the area before we take you for another thrilling experience. (If you need some advice try Brasserie La Moderna (Orizaba 95), Condesa df (Veracruz 102) or El Tizoncito(Tamaulipas 122)).

After dinner, we will start the evening at an unforgettable venue that is becoming famous all over the world: an ice bar. The venue we are visiting is the Artic Bar. This bar is a great place to “chill out”. The bar, interior and decoration are all carved out of ice, and yesss even the glasses are made of ice. We suggest to order something strong to keep you warm, because the coat provided upon arrival is not going to cut it…

Continue two doors down to Mojito Room (Nuevo León 81) to enjoy a few of Mexico’s most celebrated cocktails! This venue is so typically Mexico City and is a must visit for every self respecting cocktail lover. Enjoy the exhilarating Mexican vibes played by the live band and tremendous mojito’s. After a few of these heavenly drinks find yourself on the dancefloor trying to shoot a little salsa from those hips…

Do we feel the vibe?? Great! Top off the evening with a visit to Fever (Nuevo León 67). This chique nightclub offers trendy DJ’s and an upscale crowd. The club consists of 2 floors, 3 bars and a separate lounging area on the 2nd floor. If you are visitung this venue with a group, we recommend to reserve a table and pre-order a few bottles of your favorite liquor or champagne! Once inside, enjoy the colorful ” Saturday Night Fever”  dancefloor and the exhilarating beats spun by the DJ in charge! Just when you think the night has ended and the DJ stops playing, the party goes on until early morning…where? In the Lounge area upstairs, hurry up fool!

Brussels, The French and The Flemish

City guide Brussels

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s time for another great city trip to…Europe’s Capital: Brussels. Layers of history, including contemporary design of the highest order, are an integral part of Brussels. When we look at the city’s diversity than for sure the title ” Capital”  is justified. What started as a mixture of the French and the Flemish culture became an international melting pot of people originating from all over the world. The result of this melting pot is a diversity of of different venues that offer a wide variety of styles, price ranges and locations. So pack your bags and book the next plane to Brussels International for another great hospitality guide!

The Dominican Hotel

Arrived in Brussels? Drop your bags in Brussels most contemporary design hotel: The Dominican Hotel (Rue Léopold 9). The Dominican was “curated“ and designed by the Dutch designers FGStijl, winner of the prestigious Prix Villégiature-Paris for Best Interior Design in 2005.

The hotel was build on the foundations of a 15th century abbey. All 150 guestrooms and suites are individually designed which makes every visit to this hotel unique. The rooms are located around a central courtyard, which provides the ‘intimate’ part of the equation, reinforced by a rich combination of contemporary design and luxurious textiles. A combination of intimate repose and modern grandeur ensures that great Xperience you are looking for. Have a drink at the Lounge Bar before we continue to the real work.

You might wonder: what’s next? Maybe the ” Grote Markt” ? Resist the temptation to have a drink here since the venues located in here in the center of Brussels are not worth it to say the least. Overpriced drinks and service below our standards…

Place de Saint-GéryInstead, stroll around in the small alleys of the Center of Brussels and stop at Place de Saint-Géry, a small square that offers 3 bars that have been established by local legend Fred Nicolay. His first three venues are right here on Place St Géry: ZebraMappa Mundo and Roi des Belges. The most unconventional venue is Zebra! All three bars share the same facilities: uncomfortable wooden garden chairs, slack service and… the hippest of clientele. In addition, the belgium beers, club d’ Halle and multilingual hubbub create an extraordinary atmosphere, especially in summer time!

Our next visit is Delirium (Impasse de la Fidélité 4): also this venue is renowned for its international clientele, most of them students. For us, the only reason to visit Delirium is this: 2000 different kinds of beers are served! Slam some pitchers and make sure to try the campus beers! Don’t we love Belgium! A nice detail/photo opportunity is that you will find ” vrouwke pis” (the sister of the famous ” manneke pis”)  across from the entrance door of Delirium.

After those lovely  ’pintjes’ it is time to rock the dancefloor!! This is what Brussels lives for. Most of the venues are located
within walking distance from each other. First, head to Mirano(Chaussée de Louvain 38). Mirano = trendy Brussels! For another thrilling Xperience, make sure to find yourself in Mirano’s VIP area overlooking the rotating dancefloor. Glaze at the charming, elegant cocktail consuming crowd while enjoying your champagne…done? Time to show your moves…

Finally, the icing on the cake…no more control…rock them bars!! Final destination: Fuse (Havenlaan 86C). This is Mekka for every Techno lover! At Fuse, the best Techno DJ’s of the world perform on a weekly basis among whom the one and only…DAVE CLARKE!! Do not expect anything fancy here…no LED lights, no comfortable sofas but…exhilarating sounds, a whimsical atmosphere and a thrilling dancefloor!

Crazy Dubai

Dubai @ VenueXperienceJust as we thought that there is no more craziness possible…Dubai proved us wrong! The tallest tower in the world, man-made islands, man-made lakes, rainforests, rivers and ski slopes in the middle of the desert followed by life-size replicas of world wonders like the Great Wall of China, and how could we forget; the world’s only 7 star hotel. In this city it is pointless buying a car with a GPS system build in as the roads are out of date within 3 months after you buy the car… no, not exaggerating.  At the rate the roads are expanding you might eventually have to get on to Fly.com or ask your hotel to book a flight, just to get to other parts of Dubai. It is madness. The horizon is dotted with cranes, as if they are simply a part of the natural scenery. Just like the roads, Dubai’s hospitality industry is transforming like crazy. The city offers hundreds of great restaurants, decorative bars and luxurious hotels. It is pointless to describe today’s hotspot because tomorrow there is really a new one. Read more
