Crazy Dubai

Just as we thought that there is no more craziness possible…Dubai proved us wrong! The tallest tower in the world, man-made islands, man-made lakes, rainforests, rivers and ski slopes in the middle of the desert followed by life-size replicas of world wonders like the Great Wall of China, and how could we forget; the world’s only 7 star hotel. In this city it is pointless buying a car with a GPS system build in as the roads are out of date within 3 months after you buy the car… no, not exaggerating. At the rate the roads are expanding you might eventually have to get on to Fly.com or ask your hotel to book a flight, just to get to other parts of Dubai. It is madness. The horizon is dotted with cranes, as if they are simply a part of the natural scenery. Just like the roads, Dubai’s hospitality industry is transforming like crazy. The city offers hundreds of great restaurants, decorative bars and luxurious hotels. It is pointless to describe today’s hotspot because tomorrow there is really a new one.
Day 1
The tour that we set out for you includes some of the classics (read: maximum of 5 years old) of Dubai. No matter what new venue opens today, tomorrow or next year, these are a must to visit! The nice part about Dubai is: drinking and sightseeing go hand in hand. Most of the sights are exclusive hotels, gigantic malls and impressive towers. In Dubai, serving alcoholic beverages is allowed only in licensed hotels and restaurants. Make sure to read some information about Dubai’s rules and regulations before you visit, you do not want to end up in jail because you drank too much again…As Dubai is located in the middle of the desert, let’s go for some skiing at the Ski Dubai to develop an appetite. The first venue that we are visiting today is Sezzam (Kempinski Hotel, Mall of the Emirates) , located in the Mall of the Emirates with a view on the slopes of the Ski Dubai. Sezzam is all about discovering your senses in a swanky ambiance. Sezzam is about front-cooking, live action stations, fresh ingredients and of course…that view on the slopes. Enjoy! After lunch do your thing in the Mall of the Emirates, see something of Dubai
or just go back skiing, report back to us for duty around 6pm.
You might want to opt for dinner before the real thing starts. Instead of having that good old lobster or steak again we’ll go Thai tonight at Pai Thai (Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah)! Located at the river in Souk Madinat this venue offers delicious food and a thrilling entourage! While enjoying these tremendous Thai dishes you might again forget that you are in the Middle East. Eat as much as you can because now it’s time to rock and roll!
We’ll go for a fancy drink at the Sky View Bar (Burj al Arab Hotel, Jumeirah Beach Road). Before even attempting to cross the bridge to the Burj Al Arab Hotel, make sure to make a reservation, send faxes and awaited confirmation that indeed your allowed that drop in for a drink and a minimum spend of Dhs.250 ($68/€45). You will notice from the moment you enter that this hotel was build only to impress. The Sky View Bar’s ceiling creates a dazzling disco effect that even made us forget to look outside and enjoy the view. Now spend those bucks and sip those cocktails before we move on 2 doors down the road.
Next, we visit the
360º bar (Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Beach Road). This is an Xperience quintessentially Dubai. When you exit the Jumeirah Beach hotel to go to the 360º bar you might wonder where this walk to the breakwater’s end is leading to. We can already tell you that it’s worth it! As the name already tells, this bar offers striking panoramic views of the ever evolving Dubai Skyline and the light throwing Burj. Set out in the Arabic gulf this is the perfect location to enjoy breathtaking views, tremendous drinks, excellent service, good music and nice vibes. In addition 360º bar offers sophiticated yet trendy furniture for the early night where you can chill out and relax before you dare to go on the dancefloor…we loved the combination of lounge chairs with a traditional shisha and apple tabacco! We hope that is awesome venue gets you in the mood because now we will seriously step on the gas!!
Next stop: 400 Night Club. 400 Night Club offers the most exclusive members of Dubai party society wild luxurious nights of sheer opulence. The club is even bigger than the Trilogy club and often hosts the finest DJ’s of the world. This is where the rich and famous go, mostly to see and be seen. The gorgeous crowd, bottles of Moet & Chandon and electrifying beats make even the most grumpy expat get a grin on his face. So let’s get loose order that bottle of champagne and dance till sunrise!! We don’t care how crazy it gets…your secrets are safe with us
Day 2
Relax a little on the beach while enjoying mojito’s and make sure to check out the newly build Atlantis Hotel on The Palm. This beast (more than 1500 rooms) was opened in the beginning of 2009 with fireworks that made even the Chinese wonder where it all came from. The hotel is dedicated to water: it has a huge water aquarium under the hotel that is easy accessible to walk through underneath without getting wet! It also boasts a huge water park close to the hotel. In the early evening your body should be recovered just enough to get groovy again.
We’ll go for a quick drink in Vu’s (Emirate Towers, Sheikh Zayed Road) where you can enjoy another thrilling view over Dubai while enjoying swanky cocktails. Vu’s cocktail list has a staggering 200 cocktails to choose from. The interior consists of soft cushioned red leather seats. Again that upscale crowd that we have seen before on day 1 is present to Xperience living that luxury life. When leaving for the next venue, make sure you have a designated driver because it is stricly prohibited to drive drunk in Dubai.
We opted for a crazy taxi driver to take us to the middle of the desert. A 45 minute drive away in the middle of nowhere is Al Sarab Rooftop Lounge (Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa, Dubailand), another fine location of the Jumeira group.
Enjoy the mysteriousness of the Arabian Desert while you enjoy another one of those funky drinks that make your head spin. Puff the traditional shisha again and order that signature Desert Classic cocktail. Why the fuck not?? Now get your limo driver and let him bring you back to Dubai!
Next stop: Buddha bar for a quick drink and, if you need to eat, a good dinner. Buddha Bar Dubai is the sister of the original Buddha Bar Paris and also has the weighty authority of the giant bronze buddha in the middle of the venue. It is the perfect place for lounging before the party gets started. For more info about the Buddha Bar see our Paris citytrip.
Another dinner/drink option is Boudoir: this hottie will leave your lips smacking in silent joy. The bartenders will recognize you immediately after your first visit. This is the place to be for VIPS, deluxe drinks and worthy music!
Finally the time has come to rock and roll!! For another freaking awesome party visit Chi@The Lodge (Oud Metha). Chi@The Lodge is as close to Ibiza as Dubai is going to get. Intimate yet spacious, many argue that Chi@TheLodge is the best club of Dubai.
It has a more down to earth attitude and it is all about having a good time. Different area’s offer different kinds of music to the visitors like dance and hip hop. Enjoy the fire breathers outside (be careful that they don’t set your tequila on fire), as you might understand already: this club is constantly buzzing! Smack down some Flatliners or Lemon Drops while you feel yourself loosing control again…as we saw yesterday at 400 Night Club, bottles of champagne are no exception in Dubai. Anyway if you’re out of cash because of these intense (and most likely expensive) 2 days you can also use your credit card at this venue…how convenient haha, drink till you drop!! Nobody gives a f*ck anyway…
